Holding Space is an evidence informed practice of complementary therapy offering remedial massage in a clinic at Fareham House in Featherston, Wairarapa. Joanne Ridley (RMT) has a bachelor of health studies in neuromuscular therapy and is registered with Massage NZ. The range of services offered includes therapeutic, relaxation, cupping, hot stone, strapping, and chair massage. The client focused body work provided is a combination of muscle energy techniques, neuromuscular therapy, soft tissue therapy, mobilization, Swedish deep tissue massage, relaxation massage, home care, and exercise prescription aimed to reduce stress, identify movement patterns, increase range of motion and relieve muscle tension and pain.

Relaxation Massage 1 hour $60.00 

· Relaxation massage aims to reduce stress and loosen up your body. Treatment consists of long flowing strokes,kneading and gentle manipulations of the muscles performed at your preferred pressure with the goal to incite the central nervous system’s relaxation response.

Sports 1 hour $90.00 

· Sports massage treatment balances an understanding of not only anatomy and physiology but also the specific demands placed upon the body by the client and their chosen sport Sports massage focus is to return you to your sports activity with an increased level of function and can use modalities such as remedial massage, trigger point therapy, cross fibre techniques and deep tissue work.

Cupping 1 hour $75.00 

· Cupping therapy is a form of alternative medicine. In the context of massage therapy the therapist puts silicone cups on your skin for a few minutes to create a vacuum, this negative pressure is used as a type of deep-tissue massage.This modern version of cupping uses a rubber pump instead of fire to create the vacuum inside the cup which they can move from place to place on your skin for a massage-like effect.

Hot Stone Massage 1 hour $90.00 

· Hot stone massage uses smooth, heated basalt stones. The massage therapist places the hot stones on specific points of the body. The heat and weight of the stones combine to warm and relax muscles, allowing the massage therapist to apply deeper pressure to the muscles without causing discomfort.

Essential Oil 1 hour $65.00 

· Swedish massage therapy using massage oil that contains essential oils (highly concentrated plant oils). During an essential oil massage, these molecules are inhaled or absorbed through your skin. They are thought to promote beneficial changes in your mind and body by affecting the limbic system, a region of the brain known to influence the nervous system. Each essential oil used is said to have different properties. For example, some calm and make you feel relaxed while others energize.

Deep Tissue 1 hour $70.00 

· Deep tissue massage focuses on deeper tissue structures of muscles, where the massage therapist gives a deep tissue massage by applying strong, constant pressure against the muscle until it pushes back and relaxes, giving relief to deep areas of tension in specific muscles.

Chair Massage 15 minutes $15.00 

· Chair massage is a style of seated massage that is typically short—under 30 minutes—and focuses on your back, shoulders and neck and arms. Chair massage is done over clothes and doesn’t require any massage oil. For chair massage, you are seated in a special chair with your face resting in a cradle, looking down towards the floor, with supports for your arms. Your back and neck completely relax while the therapist relieves muscle tension using Swedish massage moves like kneading and compression and tapotement, which don’t require oil.
